Risk Management Maturity Model for Performance (RM3P)
Programme Overview & Summary
The contents of this training pack have been approved by Network Rail for use in delivery and assessment. The pack contains sufficient information to enable delivery with relatively little preparation time, however to gain maximum benefit from this pack it is recommended that some time is used by the trainer to become familiar with the contents before its use.
Style and Approach
The presentation can be customised to suit your delivery style and can be used in conjunction with other visual aids. The full technical content must be delivered.
Audience
The aim of this course is to develop coaching and facilitator skills when conducting a full RM3P assessment.
Programme Structure
1 day classroom based training.

Preparing for the workshop
Provided the delegate achieves competence. Sentinel shall be updated and the skills added to the delegate’s Sentinel Record. Additionally, the delegates’ company’s competence management system shall be updated to reflect successful completion of this training event. If competency cannot be demonstrated, further training and assessment shall be undertaken.

Course Syllabus
The following requirements must be met for this course to run to Network Rail Standards:
For the delegate:
- Must be a minimum age of 18
- Must have a good level of literacy to meet Entry Qualifications
- Must meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol)
- Must have completed and passed the RM3P eLearning on Moodle.
For the trainer:
- The Trainer must be currently registered and approved by Network Rail in accordance with Trainer/Assessors procedures
- Trainers shall be able to demonstrate suit- able occupational competence in the skill being trained
- The occupational competence of the Trainer/Assessor shall be judged against the following experience
- The proposed Trainer/ Assessor shall have at least 12 months experience of the skill being trained; or have been responsible for the successful delivery of similar training in the last two years.
Course Learning Outcomes
At the end of the training the delegate will be able to:
- Recognise the structure and learning outcomes of the course
- Recap RM3P and PIMS
- Describe the formative and summative assessment methods to be used through the course
- Discuss previous experiences of conducting safety or performance assessments within an organisation
- Compare the differences between an Audit and Assessment in the context of RM3P
- Recognise your role as an RM3P Assessor
- Identify what a good RM3P assessor looks like
- Recap the RM3P maturity definitions and RM3P Wheel.
- Identify the key stakeholders that need to be consulted before conducting a full assessment
- Identify the type of evidence that can be collected for an assessment
- Inform key stakeholders of the context of RM3P when conducting a full assessment
- Demonstrate how to prepare for an assessment
- Distinguish the relevant open and closed questions that should be asked when conducting a full assessment
- Analyse the behaviours of individuals and teams they are assessing
- Exhibit the appropriate behaviours when carrying out the full assessment
- Utilise the interview techniques when conducting a full assessment
- Explain what the spider web tool is, why it is used and be able to create one to display the data
- Demonstrate how to conduct a full assessment using evidence
- Demonstrate using the data input tool and use of the spiderweb
- Conduct a full assessment by evaluating a company/team/establishment against the RM3P Assessment criteria
- Evaluate and discuss current assessment scores
- Evaluate and discuss target score
- Comprehend and analyse the data on the spider web tool for discussion with others
- Understand how an action plan is created and why the follow up actions are important for correcting issues identified by the assessment.
